ANDHRA PRADESH will introduce a comprehensive revamp of its education system for schools with the inauguration of LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh), a new model to drastically improve learning outcomes of students, the state government has announced this week. The scheme would be introduced from the 2025–26 academic year, with emphasis on foundational literacy, information and communication technology, and world’s best practices, Education Minister Nara Lokesh announced.
The LEAP model brings with it major reforms such as play-based curriculum, AI-powered remedial assessments, and teacher performance alignment to student outcomes. The government hopes to revolutionize the education scenario in ANDHRA PRADESH by 2029 with a world-class system based on innovation, inclusion, and measurable learning standards.
We are initiating a new generation of education with LEAP. This is about setting the foundation for future-ready students who are not only academically sound but also possess life skills, leadership qualities, and digital literacy,” Lokesh told reporters in Amaravati.
Play-Based Learning and FLN at the Core
At the core of the LEAP model is the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) program — an artificial intelligence-based diagnostic tool to monitor and enhance students’ understanding of basic reading, writing, and arithmetic. The model has a play-based curriculum for young learners and a revised syllabus designed according to NEP 2020 norms.
The authorities confirmed that at pre-primary to upper primary levels, the students will learn through holistic and experiential learning methods with a combination of class work, visual aids, and technology-enabled lessons.
Overhaul of Infrastructure Throughout the State
The infrastructure overhaul is just as ambitious. Under LEAP, print-rich classrooms and the Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) initiative will be launched in all pre-primary and primary schools. The state intends to open two to three model Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in each assembly constituency.
“Every AWC will have the minimum facilities such as electricity, drinking water and girl-friendly latrines. These centres will be the children’s first experience of formal education for lakhs of children in ANDHRA PRADESH,” added a top education official.

What makes LEAP Model in ANDHRA PRADESH unique?
With its tiered emphasis on AI, barrier-free infrastructure, digital education, and outcome-based instruction, administrators and education observers think that this program might provide a template for other states.
Emphasis on Transitions, Tests, and Career Skills
To close learning gaps during key transition years, bridge courses will be provided for students transitioning to Grades 6 and 9. Additionally, summer learning packets — consisting of customized assignments and assessments — will be provided to students in Grades 6 through 8 to ready them for the upcoming school year.
Prescriptive learning tools and e-content will be provided to students on the basis of assessment results, enabling data-driven and personalized remediation.
Enabling Teachers and Principals Through Capacity Building
LEAP’s success will also depend on training teachers and developing leadership. The government will initiate a comprehensive professional development programme for teachers, including e-modules on pedagogy, facilitation of vocational training, and best practices in classroom teaching.
School principals will be provided with leadership workshops and mentorship programs to facilitate proper school-level implementation of LEAP strategies.
Value Education and Extracurriculars in the Mix
As part of an attempt to harmonize academics with all-around development, value-based education and extracurricular activities will be given focus in all classes. Digital literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities are being formally added to the curriculum with the objective of developing responsible and adaptable citizens.
Technology and Accountability
One of the most important reforms under LEAP is the alignment of teacher performance data with student learning outcomes. This data-driven monitoring system will assist in identifying instructional gaps and holding people accountable. AI tools will also be employed to inform instructional practices and improve teaching methods in real-time.
Schools in ANDHRA PRADESH will be equipped with digital facilities, including smart classrooms, e-learning content, and high-speed internet to make sure that no child is left behind in the digital era.
Vision 2029: A World-Class Education System in Andhra Pradesh
Education Minister Lokesh reiterated the state’s commitment to establishing a world-class education ecosystem by 2029, with LEAP as its foundation. He further stated that periodic audits, stakeholder opinions, and adaptive policies will be employed to track progress.
“ANDHRA PRADESH is boldly advancing to provide quality education to each child, regardless of background. LEAP is not an initiative—it’s a movement towards inclusive, innovative, and accountable learning,” Lokesh stated.
With its implementation to be initiated next academic year, all eyes are now on ANDHRA PRADESH as it takes the lead in redefining school education in India.
