IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON will enhance its engagement with India by opening a specific international research hub, ‘Imperial Global India, ‘ in Bengaluru by May 2025. The new center will be used as a vehicle to enhance scientific, educational, and innovation collaborations between India and the United Kingdom.
In a press release, IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON stated that the hub will operate as a liaison office, with facilities for co-created research projects with India’s top academic and research institutions. The move is in line with the college’s strong tradition of collaborative scientific excellence and seeks to meet the world’s most critical challenges.
The Bengaluru-centred hub is meant to serve as a link between academia, government, and industry, promoting meaningful interactions between the two countries. The project, Imperial officials said, aligns with the UK-India Technology Security Initiative and will support sustainable development, economic growth, and the improvement of quality of life through innovation and research.
India and the UK have similar science challenges and opportunities,” noted a college spokesperson. “This program will allow Imperial and Indian universities to collaborate side-by-side on problems affecting people’s lives.”
A Long-Standing Research Legacy
IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON has already established extensive research connections with top Indian institutes. Some notable ones include relationships with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, AIIMS, a number of IITs (Bombay, Delhi, and Kharagpur), and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
These collaborative efforts cover a wide spectrum of scientific fields, such as antimicrobial resistance, climate change, clean energy technologies, and healthcare innovation. The new Bengaluru hub will look to increase the scope and scale of these collaborations by providing a physical presence and focused resources in India.
