Beginning on April 7, Delhi University’s Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) will host the Shri Ram Debating Masterclass 2025.
Only high school students in Grades IX through XII are eligible for this 18-day program, which promises to be an exciting and dynamic introduction to the world of arguing.
The curriculum is a comprehensive experience that blends foundational education, international exposure, and intellectual discussion. Over the course of three weeks, participants will learn the nuances of both Parliamentary and Conventional debating styles through interactive sessions, expert lectures, and live competitive rounds.
One of the highlights of this year’s event is the presence of Hadar Goldberg from Israel, a renowned debater and educator who has made a name for herself globally. Her accomplishments include being chosen as the Best Speaker at the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) in 2023 and taking home the ESL title at WUDC 2020.
She will be joined by South Korean debater and seasoned adjudicator Youngwoo Park, who is well-known for his purposeful involvement in international debating venues. His resume highlights high-level roles such as Deputy Chief Adjudicator at Australs 2024 and the UADC 2023 and ESL Finals Judge at WUDC 2025.
These experts will be leading knowledge sessions that look at both the art and the content of argumentation alongside others. Among the subjects discussed will be international relations, policy, law, economics, culture, and narratives.
The structure of the masterclass is divided into three major phases. The first portion consists of online training sessions that take place between April 7 and April 11. These will take place after school and focus on the foundations of debate, such as argument development, persuasive speech, rebuttal strategies, and critical analysis. Students will interact directly with the mentors through online platform.
In the second phase, which is set for April 12 and 13, students will participate in a series of video assessments. Their succinct comments on specific motions will be assessed according to their structure, impact, and clarity. The competition’s final round will be attended by the top ten competitors from each division: Junior (Classes IX-X) and Senior (Classes XI-XII).
The SRCC campus will host the grand finale on April 25. The selected candidates will compete in a unique format known as a Conventional Debate, where each debater is required to present a single speech supporting and opposing the same motion.
