On May 8, Delhi will introduce a curriculum for students in Classes 6–10 that is based on artificial intelligence (AI) literacy. The Central Square Foundation (CSF) will introduce the AI Samarth curriculum framework. It was created in collaboration with IIT-Madras’ Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI.

With an emphasis on kids aged 11 to 14, it was created to foster an atmosphere that permits safe and moral use as well as knowledge and awareness of AI.

The project aims to create an open-source content stack that is accessible to teachers and students in four languages: Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Odia, and English, as well as a comprehensive curriculum framework for AI literacy.

Additionally, the framework will help spread the content stack through online platforms and training courses to increase awareness of artificial intelligence and its real-world applications. In order to provide users with AI tools, the framework has been designed to help them understand AI and its role in daily life, as well as to introduce its fundamental ideas and useful applications, according to a press release from CSF.

The impact of AI on society is also covered, emphasizing both its potential advantages and the ethical, biased, private, and accountable considerations that should be made when using it.

Over the course of the next six months, the curriculum’s multilingual content stack will be made available, with plans to eventually add more regional languages.

According to the CSF release, “the curriculum framework supports the development of a flexible, holistic curriculum designed to cater to diverse learning levels, allowing institutions to customize its depth and breadth based on local contexts, grade levels, institutional goals, and the varying readiness of students and teachers in terms of their awareness, understanding, and use of AI.”
