CBSE has declared a major modification in the post-examination assessment procedure for the students who appear in the 2025 Class 10 and 12 board examinations. With the goal of improving transparency and giving students greater control over their outcome, the Central Board of Secondary Education will now permit students to see photocopies of their marked answer papers prior to applying for re-evaluation or verification.
Earlier, CBSE had a linear and sequential process wherein students were allowed to seek verification of marks first, followed by photocopies of their answer sheets, and lastly, re-evaluation. But under the new process beginning with the 2025 board exams, students will be allowed to first seek a copy of their marked answer booklets. This access will allow them to review the marking and make a better decision on whether or not to apply for verification or re-evaluation.
As per CBSE, the revised sequence will now be:
Photocopy of assessed answer books
Verification of marks
Re-evaluation (or both, if required)
This rearrangement is intended to provide a preliminary chance for students to review the marking completed on their papers and spot any inconsistencies. By enabling them to review their own responses prior to taking further action, the CBSE aims to avoid guesswork and enhance satisfaction with the process of result correction.
CBSE said that the step is in line with its focus on student welfare and justice in assessment processes. Students will now have greater clarity and confidence in seeking redress against marks they feel are incorrect. By viewing the graded answers in their own handwriting, they can make more specific and justified requests for corrections, if needed.

CBSE: Why Does This Procedural Change Matter for Students?
CBSE’s move has serious implications for the almost 35 lakh students who are likely to sit for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in 2025. Hitherto, a large number of students were forced to apply for verification or re-evaluation without being sure if an actual error in marking or calculation had taken place. This tended to result in unwanted applications and additional anxiety for students as well as evaluators.
With the new framework, students can initially see their graded sheets, determine whether any questions remained unmarked or if there were calculation errors, and then determine whether they need a basic verification or a detailed re-grading. This extra layer of transparency is likely to introduce greater efficiency and confidence into the result grievance redressal system.
In addition, students who believe their responses were unfairly graded or neglected will have an image to help substantiate their complaints. The process minimizes ambiguity and provides a stronger system of academic assessment.
CBSE also assured that complete details on how to apply for photocopies, verification of marks, and re-examination will be provided post declaration of results for Class 10 and Class 12. Thus, parents and students are also requested to regularly check official CBSE portals.
Official sites are:
cbseresults.nic.in
results.cbse.nic.in
cbse.gov.in
digilocker.gov.in
results.gov.in
Moreover, students would also be able to access results through the UMANG app as well as SMS.
The move has been hailed by various educationists and student interest groups who have long advocated for greater transparency in the board evaluation process. They are confident that this change will go a long way in curtailing the number of unnecessary re-evaluation requests and instill more confidence in the board’s assessment standards.
CBSE is also likely to provide explicit timelines for when applications for re-evaluation, verification, and photocopies can be made, along with the respective fees and payment modes. These changes will be made after the declaration of results.
The CBSE Class 12 and Class 10 examinations for 2025 took place between February 15 to March 1, and February 15 to April 4, respectively. Examinations of all subjects were carried out in the morning shift, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. According to reports, the results of both Class 12 as well as Class 10 students are expected to be declared on the same day, though no date has been announced officially by CBSE.
Overall, CBSE’s recently introduced move in the process of evaluation is a significant move toward empowering students and procedural transparency. By changing the order of the process and offering students a prior view of their marked answer papers, the board is redressing long-standing post-result transparency-related concerns. The step should also lower complaints and instill confidence in the reasonableness of CBSE’s academic evaluation.
While thousands of students wait for their results in the days to come, this program is set to have a central role in defining how students react to their board marks and how the education system manages accountability and review processes.
