CUET-UG 2025 Postponed — What Students Need to Know

Sources claim that NTA has notified the University Grants Commission (UGC) of its incapacity to administer the test on the originally specified date. Following a meeting between the NTA and the UGC on Tuesday, a formal statement on new exam dates is anticipated.

CUET-UG 2025 exam delayed

The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate programs will now be administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 13 and beyond, a few days later than the previously stated tentative date of May 8.

According to sources, the NTA was not yet ready to administer CUET-UG, so the test was postponed.
Sources claim that the NTA has notified the University Grants Commission (UGC) of its incapacity to administer the test on the originally specified date.

Following a meeting between the NTA and the UGC on Tuesday, a formal statement on new exam dates is anticipated. NTA administers the test on behalf of UGC, which is the exam’s parent organization.

It has been discovered that NTA is requesting additional time from UGC to administer CUET because of the delay in CUET preparation, which was mostly brought on by the emphasis on administering the NEET-UG entrance exam last Sunday.

As they continue to wait for exam city slips and clear communication from the NTA regarding the precise timetable, lakhs of candidates are confused by the delay in issuing the exam schedule.

According to the NTA’s March announcements regarding CUET-UG registration and application, the exam is tentatively scheduled to take place between May 8 and June 1.

CUET-UG is being administered exclusively as a computer-based test this year, as it was in 2023 and 2022, despite being administered in hybrid mode last year, which included both pen-and-paper and computer-based components. According to insiders, TCS is assisting with the computer-based test.

In response to a question about whether the NEET-UG preparation on Sunday contributed to the postponement of CUET-UG, Ministry of Education sources stated that because NEET-UG is a pen-and-paper exam, the test locations for the two tests are different.

According to a source, there won’t likely be much overlap between the test locations for the two tests. They also mentioned that NTA staff were preparing for CUET-UG concurrently with NEET, given that it was already set to start a few days after NEET.

Each of the 37 subjects that make up the exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and lasts 60 minutes. Two to three shifts each day are anticipated, while the exact number will depend on the availability of exam centers. It was held for about 13.48 lakh candidates last year.

The NTA has not released a formal date sheet this year, in contrast to past years. Rather, the agency is supposed to use the city intimation slips to immediately communicate exam details. These slips may offer subject-specific exam dates in addition to informing candidates about the location in which their exam centers are located. Parents and students across have been complaining about the communication breakdown, particularly because travel and lodging plans are still pending.

Thirteen Indian languages—English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu—will be used to administer the CUET-UG 2025. The guidelines provided in the information bulletin on the official website must be closely adhered to the candidates. There is no upper age limit for applicants who intend to take the CUET-UG 2025 exam. Candidates must, however, meet any age requirements set forth by the university or other organization to which they intend to apply.
