A minor girl allegedly trafficked from West Bengal was rescued after enduring months of abuse, culminating in a gang rape near Moolchand Metro Station in South Delhi. The survivor was held captive for nearly five months. After escaping, she came under the control of an auto driver in Delhi, who allegedly raped her repeatedly over a week. On the evening of May 5th, he and others allegedly gang-raped her close to the Moolchand Metro area. The accused, an auto driver reportedly, admitted to the crime at the police station.
A local rickshaw puller who found the girl in distress informed locals, who were out feeding stray dogs, about her condition. He casually informed them that he had been sheltering a child in his hut since the previous night-a child who had been gang raped. The locals found the girl curled up under a sheet. She spoke in Bengali that neither they nor the rickshaw puller could fully understand until a translator was called. When the girl saw a man pass by, she began screaming. ”I will never forget the moment when I lifted the bedsheet and found a little child curled up inside,” said the local girl.
The accused was identified by the rickshaw puller as this auto driver whom she was accusing of abuse and rape. When she was confronted, the accused turned violent and hit the girl in public. The accused was beaten by a crowd who then took him along with the victim to Amar Colony Police Station.

INSIDE THE POLICE STATION
At the station, the auto driver admitted to the crime. In spite of this, he was permitted to sleep in an air-conditioned room while the victim was forced to sit on two hard chairs. She was not given painkillers or trauma care after she was subjected to a medical examination for sexual assault.
The local said, despite passing on the information about their whereabouts, there have still been no arrests made 48 hours later. The police ensured that the rapists have ample time to pack their bags, flee and go off the radar. One of them, Subhash, is on the run already.
Medical examinations of the child revealed gory, gruesome ,disgusting details-anal penetration ,vaginal penetartion, penetration of objects, forceful drugging, physical violence(brusises, burnt marks, wounds).
Official action has been put off. The accident occurred on a service road outside Frank Anthony Public School, near Moolchand Metro Station. The spot is in close proximity to colleges such as Lady Shri Ram College for Women and Bluebells International School, and is in the heart of a crowded student-inhabited PG area within the National Park.
The location where the crime was committed is highly populated with students and young professionals, who have many of them marked it as unsafe. Students have continuously complained about instances of sexual harassment, flashing, and even attempted kidnappings along the service road of the back gate. These issues have seldom been given official notice or led to heightened security
I myself have been threatened on multiple occasions on my daily commute to college. With such occurrences of careless harassment occurring on pretty much every possible route you can take within the vicinity, safety is a luxury. The apathy and sometimes indifference of the Amar Colony Police Station only adds to the problem. We have no choice but to depart from our own campus early, hoping to steer clear of creepy men

The survivor gave graphic descriptions of sexual assault, including foreign objects and scorch marks on her body. Yet, the police were reportedly hesitant to lodge a complaint, and one of the accused has already escaped the state. Some fear that belated legal action will again deny justice.
National media sources like The Times of India and The Indian Express covered the incident, which has been lambasted by the initial complainant for its inaccuracies, referring to the girl as a “vagabond” and incorrectly stating her age, and additionally, for perpetuating victim-blaming tropes. Lady Shri Ram College students who had intended to go to Amar Colony Police Station to lodge complaints were requested to stay away by the initial complainant, following tensions building up there. They wished that the child be given her hearing before the magistrate on 8th May, without any disruption. A peaceful demonstration might be planned shortly.
This event in itself, though, is not singular. It is a reflection of systemic failure to safeguard survivors and secure public safety. The disparity in the treatment of the accused and victim indicates deeper problems within the system, where victims of crime are left to suffer in silence while perpetrators go unpunished. As residents and students in the region continue to call for accountability, the case has renewed demands for police reform, institutional sensitivity, and concrete measures to ensure Delhi is safe for everyone.
The police lacked any sensitivity in dealing with this case, making the victim sit next to the rapist. In what world is this acceptable?
POLICE SATEMENTS
The police blame the victim, only saying
”Maybe she was not forced into his auto, she went inside it willingly”.
”She is not mentally stable, how are you believing her?
” How could she not resisted rape?”
And the classic-” This isn’t an FIR for this station, you should’ve gone to the other station”, when their own PCR takes them there.
WE SHOULD STEP UP AND SPEAK FOR JUSTICE BECAUSE TODAY IT WAS HER, TOMORROW IT COULD BE ANYONE. WE SHOULD RAISE AWARENESS AND STAND AGAINST INJUSTICE SO SHE GETS JUSTICE.
