CUET UG 2025 test-takers taking the Accountancy subject must undergo a new question paper, as the National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important modification in the examination pattern. The change brings about flexibility in the organization of the Accountancy paper by providing an optional unit as a substitute for Unit V. The step has been taken keeping in view the issues pointed out by students who had appeared for the subject in the previous examination schedule.
The modification, effective May 22, 2025, gives students an option to respond to questions from Unit V or any other unit, based on their choice and preparation. The change has been made in the middle of the current CUET UG 2025, which started from May 15 and will finish on May 31. The modification is being made to align with the notified syllabus more effectively and provide test-takers with a more balanced way of approaching the test.
NTA also declared that those candidates who appeared in the Accountancy paper from May 15 to May 18 under the previous pattern will be offered an option to reappear for the paper, if they want to. These students can hold onto their existing scores or decide to take the test again under the new format. A notice informing candidates of their eligibility for the re-exam has already been sent to the affected candidates.
As per NTA officials, this shift was made following a careful examination of student responses and an internal scrutiny of the question paper’s conformity with the precribed syllabus. The new pattern of the question paper leaves Units I to IV intact but makes Unit V voluntary at the expense of an additional section, for which details have been sent out to examination centers and candidates.
CUET UG 2025: What Impact Would the Mid-Exam Pattern Revisions Have on Students’ Strategy and Results?
The move to reconsider the Accountancy paper throughout CUET UG 2025 has opened up broad debate among candidates and teachers. The flexibility and merit that it provides, particularly for those who did not feel that the initial Unit V material was sufficiently addressed in their board curriculum, have been appreciated by some students. Others are concerned about whether to reappear in the examination or hold on to their existing performance.

The CUET UG 2025 is a countrywide test held for admission to undergraduate studies at central universities and other participating universities. The test, which is being held in 13 languages and in several shifts daily, comprises 61 test papers in all — language subjects, domain-specific subjects such as Accountancy, and a general test.
For the Accountancy paper, each set of question papers has multiple-choice questions related to the Class 12 NCERT syllabus. Through the recent revision, students can now bypass Unit V and instead attempt questions from a different unit so that they can highlight strengths in wider subject areas.
This year, over 13.5 lakh aspirants have signed up for CUET UG 2025, which is among the biggest undergraduate entry tests in India. The NTA has the responsibility to maintain fairness, inclusiveness, and logistical prudence across thousands of exam centers in India and internationally.
In the midst of the continuing exam schedule, the NTA is also facing other issues. CUET UG 2025 examinations planned on May 13 (Shift II) and May 14 (Shifts I and II) at Srinagar’s Kite Polytechnic Centre were cancelled due to technical glitches. Approximately 76 candidates were hit by the cancellation, and the NTA has said that new exam dates will be planned for these students, along with new admit cards.
With regard to the updated Accountancy pattern and the ongoing adjustments in logistics, the NTA has reaffirmed its adherence to transparency and fairness in the administration of CUET UG 2025. It has appealed to the students to stay calm, prepare in an orderly manner, and continuously check their registered email ids and SMS notifications for any updates.
Parents and teachers have widely welcomed the NTA’s move to provide a re-exam facility for students who might have been prejudiced by the original paper format. It is being seen as a positive measure towards enhancing the quality and fairness of the CUET process.
In order to preserve exam integrity, the NTA has taken care to make all changes securely available only to concerned candidates, and exam centers have been informed about the conduct of the new pattern. Candidates attending from May 22 onwards will be able to receive the new version of the Accountancy paper at their respective centers.
The NTA has also made it clear that students who do not opt to reappear will have their original marks taken into account for admission purposes and will be valid for all the participating universities.
As CUET UG 2025 presses on in the second half of its exam duration, authorities are keeping close tabs on feedback to implement any additional adjustments needed. This mid-exam adjustment for the subject of Accountancy is illustrative of NTA’s sensitivity and flexibility in the face of authentic concerns, particularly with the futures of millions of students hanging in the balance.
