IIM Jammu achieves two major global accreditations—EFMD and BGA—joining top IIMs and boosting its global standing in management education.
In a major leap forward for Indian management education, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has secured two globally recognized accreditations within a single academic year—EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) and BGA (Business Graduates Association). This achievement marks a significant milestone for one of India’s youngest IIMs and signals its rapid rise on the global academic stage.
At a press conference held on campus, the institute’s leadership officially announced the news, celebrating the accreditations as a validation of its growing academic excellence, particularly in its flagship MBA program.
A Rare Distinction Among IIMs
With this achievement, IIM Jammu becomes one of only five IIMs out of 21 to hold both EFMD and BGA accreditations. The others in this elite list include the more established names—IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, and IIM Indore. While IIM Indore already holds the coveted “Triple Crown” accreditation—AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS (the accreditation arm of EFMD)—IIM Jammu’s dual recognition is a powerful step toward joining those ranks.
“This is not just a feather in our cap; it’s a defining moment in our journey towards internationalization and excellence,” said a senior faculty member during the press interaction.
The Journey to Global Recognition
The BGA accreditation process began in January 2025 with a visit from an international peer review team. This was followed by the EFMD accreditation review in March, culminating in a successful evaluation in June. The BGA accreditation is valid for five years, while the EFMD accreditation has been granted for three years, reflecting strong initial compliance with international standards and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Both accreditations involved rigorous assessments across multiple parameters—including academic quality, student outcomes, faculty research, sustainability, and global engagement.
Strengthening Global Reputation
These recognitions are not merely symbolic. They open doors to international partnerships, student and faculty exchanges, and greater trust from global employers and collaborators. As institutions worldwide compete to offer globally relevant education, such accreditations serve as a mark of credibility, transparency, and excellence.
“IIM Jammu’s dual accreditations will give its students an edge in both domestic and international job markets, enhance the institute’s visibility on global platforms, and attract a more diverse student pool,” said one of the accreditation board reviewers.
According to the institute, this move aligns with India’s vision of transforming into a global education hub as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It’s also part of a broader ambition to position Indian institutes as thought leaders in management and innovation, not just in South Asia, but worldwide.
Not Just About Prestige—A Step Toward Global Collaboration
Beyond prestige, IIM Jammu’s leadership emphasized that these accreditations are a strategic foundation for larger goals. They plan to foster cross-border academic collaborations, participate in global research initiatives, and align their curriculum with international best practices.
“This is just the beginning. We are committed to nurturing a world-class learning environment and contributing to India’s emergence as a knowledge superpower,” said Professor B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu.
He added that future plans include pursuing additional accreditations, forging partnerships with international universities, and expanding their global alumni network.

Established in 2016, IIM Jammu is still a relatively young institute, but this achievement underlines how rapidly it has matured. Its emphasis on quality education, innovation, and strategic vision has earned it a place at the table with the country’s most prestigious business schools.
