IIT Gandhinagar Launches 4-Month Foundations of Data Science Certificate Program for Engineers and Professionals
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has announced the launch of a new, intensive Certificate Program in the Foundations of Data Science for Engineers. Aimed at engineering graduates, final-year students, and working professionals, the four-month online program is designed to equip learners with the essential concepts, tools, and techniques of modern data science.
The program is open to individuals who either hold or are currently pursuing a graduate degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, business, economics, or science. Applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks or a CPI of 6.0/10 in their qualifying degree. Additionally, final-year undergraduate students and working professionals with a basic understanding of Class 12-level mathematics are also encouraged to apply.
With data becoming the cornerstone of decision-making in industries worldwide, the program aims to provide learners with a solid academic and practical grounding in data science. The course includes 18 credits covering foundational knowledge, essential data science themes, and vital communication skills—enabling participants to effectively analyse, interpret, and communicate data-driven insights.
The program will be delivered entirely online, with live, interactive sessions led by faculty from IIT Gandhinagar. These sessions are designed to offer flexibility for working professionals and students, ensuring they can learn without compromising their current commitments. Speaking about the initiative, an IITGN representative said, “This program is part of IIT Gandhinagar’s larger mission to democratise high-quality education and foster cross-disciplinary learning. With the rising demand for data literacy across industries, this course helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.”
One of the unique aspects of the program is its pass/fail evaluation system, which focuses on continuous assessment rather than traditional grading. This ensures that learners can focus on truly understanding the material, rather than just scoring well on exams. The course structure includes core modules in statistics, programming, machine learning, and data visualisation, along with sessions that improve data communication and storytelling—skills that are increasingly vital in today’s data-centric world.
The course fee totals ₹2,00,000, which includes an application fee of ₹500, a registration fee of ₹20,000, and a tuition fee of ₹1,80,000. Interested candidates can register for the program through the official IIT Gandhinagar website iitgn.ac.in by August 15.
