University of Southampton Gurgaon Campus Opens: Courses, Faculty & Admission Details for 2025

The University of Southampton, a prestigious UK-based institution, has officially inaugurated its India campus in Gurgaon, marking a significant milestone in transnational education. The new campus is set to welcome its first cohort of 140 students for the 2025–26 academic session starting in September 2025.

This launch positions Southampton among a select group of global universities expanding their academic footprint in India. The institution will initially offer a carefully curated set of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across business, technology, and economics disciplines.

Courses Offered in 2025–26

For its maiden academic session, the Gurgaon campus will offer:

Undergraduate Programs (UG):

  1. Business Management
  2. Accounting and Finance
  3. Computer Science
  4. Economics

Postgraduate Programs (PG):

  1. Finance
  2. International Management

These courses are designed to provide globally relevant, career-ready education tailored for Indian and international students. The curriculum and faculty model closely align with what’s offered at Southampton’s UK campus, maintaining academic parity and international standards.

Growing Footprint of Foreign Universities in India

At the inauguration ceremony, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted India’s evolving educational ecosystem, noting the growing presence of international institutions.

He announced that apart from the three foreign universities currently operational in India, approvals are underway for 12 additional foreign universities under the UGC’s transnational education regulations. Two more campuses are being set up in GIFT City, Gujarat, with others planned in NCR, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

This push aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to foster global academic collaboration and boost India’s status as an education hub.

Meet the Academic Provost: Professor Eloise Phillips

The Gurgaon campus will be academically led by Professor Eloise Phillips, appointed as the Academic Provost. Prof. Phillips brings a wealth of international experience in both higher education and clinical practice.

Previously, she played a key role in setting up the University of Birmingham’s flagship Dubai campus, where she served as the Head of Health, Wellbeing, and Human Sciences programmes as of February 2025. Before that, she was an Associate Dean at Aston University, UK.

Her professional journey includes:

  • Registered nurse and advanced clinical practitioner
  • Extensive experience in healthcare leadership, research, and higher education
  • Strong background in curriculum development and transnational academic strategy

With her at the helm, the university aims to ensure that academic standards, student welfare, and faculty recruitment at the Gurgaon campus match the global reputation of the Southampton brand.

What This Means for Indian Students

The launch of the University of Southampton Gurgaon Campus 2025 is significant for students in India looking for UK-quality education at home. With rising international tuition fees and visa uncertainties, this move offers Indian students an affordable and accessible alternative without compromising on global exposure or academic rigor.

Students enrolled in the Gurgaon campus will benefit from:

  • A world-class curriculum taught by internationally qualified faculty
  • Access to global academic resources
  • Opportunities for semester exchange or transfer to the UK campus (subject to program guidelines)
  • Enhanced employability and industry relevance

This initiative by the University of Southampton signals a new era of globalized higher education in India, where students can engage with world-class faculty and global academic models—right in their home country.

With the support of India’s education ministry and the University Grants Commission (UGC), more such institutions are expected to follow suit, further internationalising India’s academic landscape.

Applications for the first academic session (2025–26) are expected to open soon. Prospective students are encouraged to stay updated via the official university website or authorised admission channels.
