A Legacy Rooted in History

Bengaluru is set to welcome one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious schools as The King’s School Canterbury prepares to open a new campus in India, bringing with it a remarkable 1,400-year legacy of education, ethics, and global leadership.

Founded in 597 AD and re-established under a Royal Charter from King Henry VIII in 1541, the UK-based institution is widely recognized as one of the oldest schools in continuous operation. For centuries, it has nurtured generations of scholars, leaders, and innovators who have gone on to influence politics, science, literature, and art across the globe.

With its arrival in India, King’s Canterbury seeks to blend this historical depth with the dynamism of modern Indian education.

The Vision Behind the Bengaluru Campus

The Indian campus, slated to open in 2027, is being developed in collaboration with Vidhyanidhi Education Trust, an organization known for its commitment to high-quality education and innovative learning environments.

The Bengaluru campus will follow a British curriculum, carefully adapted to the needs of 21st-century learners in India. It will emphasize a balance of academic rigor, emotional intelligence, ethical grounding, and leadership skills.

According to Dr Kiran Pai, Managing Trustee of Vidhyanidhi Education Trust and Managing Director of Vidyashilp Education Group, this initiative represents much more than a cross-continental expansion — it is a convergence of shared educational philosophies.

“This collaboration draws on centuries of learning and a shared belief in education that cultivates intellect and integrity,” Dr Pai said. “When we open in 2027, it will not just mark a new beginning but a continuation of a tradition guided by purpose, excellence, and a global outlook.”

A Partnership of Visionaries

The partnership bringing this prestigious institution to India includes Nina Hunt, Managing Director of The King’s School Canterbury International, and Tony Puri, CEO of Minerva International. Together, they aim to bring King’s Canterbury’s distinguished legacy to Indian soil while ensuring it aligns with local aspirations and global standards.

The collaboration reflects Bengaluru’s growing reputation as an educational and innovation hub, where international schools and universities are increasingly establishing a presence.

Nina Hunt noted that King’s Bengaluru will mirror the ethos of its UK counterpart, offering students an environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and cultural understanding.

“Our goal is to prepare students for a rapidly evolving world — one that values not only academic achievement but also empathy, creativity, and resilience,” Hunt said.

A New Home in Century One World

The Bengaluru campus of The King’s School Canterbury will be located within Century One World, a 135-acre luxury township in North Bengaluru, developed by Century Real Estate. The township aims to combine education, living, and community spaces in a single integrated environment.

Ravindra Pai, Joint Trustee of Vidhyanidhi Education Trust and Managing Director of Century Real Estate, emphasized the significance of this partnership:

“We are pleased to welcome King’s Canterbury. The quality of the King’s campus will be an integral component of the prestigious residential community we are establishing at Century One World.”

The state-of-the-art campus will feature modern infrastructure, eco-friendly architecture, and facilities that foster holistic growth — from sports and arts to research and innovation.

The School’s Educational Philosophy

At the heart of King’s Canterbury’s approach lies its belief in developing well-rounded individuals who think independently and lead with integrity. The Bengaluru campus will uphold this philosophy through its academic and co-curricular programs, combining traditional British pedagogy with global best practices.

The school aims to create a multicultural learning environment that welcomes students from diverse backgrounds. It will encourage inquiry-based learning, leadership opportunities, and ethical decision-making — preparing students not just for exams, but for life.

Jude Lowson, Head of The King’s School Canterbury, UK, highlighted this in his remarks:

“The launch of The King’s School Canterbury, Bengaluru, is not merely an extension of our heritage; it is a bold step towards the future of international education. Together, we aspire to cultivate globally minded, ethically grounded students — young people equipped to shape a world defined by innovation, understanding, and shared human values.”

Admissions and Future Plans

Admissions for select grades will begin in 2026, with the full K–12 school expected to be operational by 2030.

Students will have access to a global network of alumni and educators, with opportunities for international exchanges, cultural collaborations, and joint academic initiatives with the UK campus.

As part of its long-term plan, the school also aims to establish leadership and innovation programs, ensuring that students are prepared for the challenges of a connected, multicultural world.

A Fusion of Legacy and Innovation

The arrival of The King’s School Canterbury marks a significant moment for Indian education. By merging 1,400 years of British heritage with Bengaluru’s vibrant, forward-looking spirit, the school represents a new model of international education — one where tradition and modernity coexist seamlessly.

As it prepares to open its doors in 2027, King’s Canterbury Bengaluru promises not only to redefine academic excellence but also to shape the next generation of global citizens — leaders rooted in history yet ready for the future.
