Government Warns of Tough Action Against Attempts to Disrupt June 21 NEET Re-Exam; Security Measures Intensified

New Delhi, June 12: The Central Government on Friday issued a stern warning against any attempt to interfere with the integrity of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, stating that anyone found trying to distort, disrupt, or tamper with the examination process will face the full force of the law. The warning was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan during a high-level review meeting held to assess preparations for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination, scheduled for June 21. The meeting was attended by National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Abhishek Singh and other officials involved in the conduct of the examination.
According to an official statement, the Cabinet Secretary stressed the importance of ensuring a smooth, transparent, and secure examination process through close coordination among all stakeholders involved in the conduct of the re-test.
Government Stresses Coordinated Efforts to Ensure Fair Examination
During the review meeting, Somanathan underlined that the Central Government, state governments, and district administrations are working together to ensure the successful conduct of the NEET re-examination.
“The Central Government, state governments and district administration are working together in close coordination to ensure smooth conduct of the NEET re-examination. The full might and weight of law will fall on any person trying in any manner to distort, disrupt, or tamper with the integrity or smooth conduct of the re-examination,” the statement quoted the Cabinet Secretary as saying.
The government has been holding a series of meetings in recent weeks to monitor preparedness and strengthen arrangements for the examination. Officials said these efforts are focused on ensuring effective coordination among agencies, enhancing security measures, and safeguarding the credibility of the examination process.
Series of Review Meetings Held Ahead of June 21 Re-Test
As part of the preparations, Somanathan had earlier reviewed arrangements with secretaries of various central government departments and relevant agencies on June 1.
Subsequently, on June 4, he chaired another review meeting with chief secretaries of state governments to evaluate the status of preparations and assess progress in implementing security and administrative measures.
Officials said the objective of these meetings has been to strengthen preparedness at every level, facilitate coordination between different authorities, and maintain public confidence in the examination process.
Security Agencies Mobilised for Question Paper Transportation
To ensure the safe movement of examination material, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to provide security during the transportation of question papers.
Officials said enhanced security arrangements have been put in place to prevent any possibility of leakage, tampering, or unauthorised access during the movement of examination-related materials.
The transportation of question papers has emerged as a key focus area following concerns raised during the previous examination cycle.
Background: NEET-UG 2026 Examination Cancelled After Leak Allegations
The original NEET-UG examination was conducted on May 3. However, the National Testing Agency cancelled the examination on May 12 following allegations of a question paper leak.
The matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has made several arrests in connection with the case.
The cancellation affected lakhs of medical aspirants across the country and led authorities to implement additional safeguards for the upcoming re-examination.
Lockdown of Personnel Forms First Layer of Security Framework
Officials said the isolation or “lockdown” of personnel involved in the preparation of question papers constitutes the first layer of a comprehensive multi-level security system developed by the Ministry of Education and the NTA for the June 21 re-test.
The examination is scheduled to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm.
According to official plans, the re-examination will be held across 551 cities in India and 14 cities outside the country, making it one of the largest entrance examinations conducted globally.
Entire Examination Chain Under Enhanced Monitoring
Authorities have expanded oversight mechanisms to cover every stage of the examination process.
Officials said stricter monitoring is now being carried out for question paper preparation, translation, moderation, printing, packaging, storage, transportation, and final distribution.
The examination workflow has also been divided into separate operational segments to ensure that no individual or group has complete access to the entire process. This compartmentalised approach is intended to minimise risks and strengthen confidentiality throughout the examination chain.
The government believes that such measures will help reduce vulnerabilities and improve accountability at every stage.
Additional Focus on Secure Logistics and Movement of Exam Material
Apart from administrative and personnel-related safeguards, authorities have increased their focus on the secure transportation of examination material.
Officials revealed that the government has explored the use of Indian Air Force aircraft for the secure movement of question papers across different parts of the country.
The move is aimed at ensuring timely and secure delivery of examination materials while minimising risks associated with transportation.
Security protocols have also been strengthened at storage centres and transit points involved in the distribution process.
Round-the-Clock Monitoring of Social Media Platforms
In addition to physical security measures, authorities are closely monitoring online platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation and fraudulent content related to the examination.
Officials said surveillance teams are carrying out round-the-clock monitoring of social media platforms, messaging applications, and online forums.
The objective is to identify and act against the circulation of fake question papers, misinformation campaigns, rumours, and any suspicious online activity that could undermine the examination process or create confusion among candidates.
Authorities believe that continuous digital monitoring will help prevent attempts to mislead students and maintain confidence in the fairness of the examination.
Conclusion: Government Aims to Ensure Credible and Secure NEET Re-Examination
With the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, the government has intensified both physical and digital security measures to protect the integrity of the test. Through coordinated efforts involving the Central Government, state administrations, security agencies, and the National Testing Agency, authorities are seeking to ensure a transparent, fair, and smooth examination process.
The extensive review meetings, deployment of CRPF and CISF personnel, enhanced monitoring of every stage of the examination chain, secure transportation arrangements, and continuous surveillance of online platforms reflect the government’s focus on preventing any disruption to the re-examination. Officials have reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to interfere with the conduct or credibility of the NEET-UG 2026 re-test.
