Recruitment Exam Row Keeps Students on Protest
The protest by JPSC and JSSC job aspirants in Jharkhand entered its 19th day on Wednesday, August 12, with no breakthrough in negotiations between student representatives and the state government. The agitation is centred on alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and demands for greater transparency in the state’s competitive examination system.
Despite several rounds of discussions and assurances from the government, protesting candidates have refused to end their demonstration. Students have said that the agitation will continue until their major demands are addressed.
Two Major Issues Continue to Block Agreement
The current deadlock is primarily over two demands raised by the protesting aspirants. Students are seeking cancellation of the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination and a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in disputed JPSC and JSSC examinations.

The health concerns have added urgency to calls for both sides to reach a settlement, particularly as the demonstration continues for a third week.
Assembly March Escalated the Dispute
Tensions increased earlier this week when thousands of aspirants marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi. Police used tear gas, water cannons and batons to disperse protesters after the demonstration escalated near the legislature. The incident further intensified the dispute and triggered political reactions.
The protests have drawn attention beyond the examination issue, with opposition parties criticising the government’s handling of the student agitation.
Students Signal More Protests Ahead
With negotiations still unresolved, protesting aspirants have indicated that they intend to continue their agitation. Their primary focus remains the cancellation of the disputed JSSC CGL examination and an independent investigation into alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations.
