CID Investigation Expands Into Recruitment Irregularities
The investigation into alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s government recruitment examinations has widened, with the state CID examining claims of cash-for-jobs deals and manipulation of candidates’ interview scores. The probe has brought officials, intermediaries and candidates under scrutiny as authorities investigate possible interference in the recruitment process.

Interview Marks Allegedly Increased for Candidates
According to investigators, allegations have emerged that the interview scores of seven candidates were allegedly increased in exchange for money during the 11th to 13th JPSC examinations. Investigators are examining claims that intermediaries facilitated financial deals linked to recruitment and the alteration of interview marks.
A key accused questioned by the CID has reportedly told investigators that around ₹5.8 crore was collected from candidates seeking Forest Range Officer and Assistant Conservator of Forests positions. The allegations are part of the ongoing investigation and have not yet been established by a court.
Former JPSC Chairman Arrested
The investigation gained further momentum following the arrest of former JPSC chairman L. Khiangte. The CID arrested him on August 10 in connection with alleged irregularities surrounding the commission’s 14th Civil Services Examination.
Khiangte, a former Jharkhand chief secretary, had resigned as JPSC chairman in July, stating that his resignation would help facilitate a fair and impartial investigation.
Probe Looks at Officials and Private Agencies
Investigators are examining the alleged involvement of government officials, private agencies and intermediaries connected with multiple recruitment examinations. The wider probe also includes allegations relating to examination leaks and the handling of recruitment processes.
The Jharkhand government has separately moved towards an Enforcement Directorate investigation into alleged financial irregularities connected with the JPSC examination controversy and announced plans for a fast-track court.
Student Protests Continue Across Jharkhand
The investigation comes amid sustained protests by students and government-job aspirants in the state. Protesters have demanded action against those allegedly responsible for examination irregularities and called for an independent probe.
The agitation escalated earlier this week when thousands of aspirants marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly in Ranchi. Police used water cannons, tear gas and batons to disperse protesters, intensifying the political controversy surrounding the recruitment examinations.
Recruitment System Faces Greater Scrutiny
The allegations have put the credibility of Jharkhand’s competitive recruitment system under renewed scrutiny.
