CUET-UG 2025 Sparks Outcry Over Distant Exam Centres, Ignored Preferences

CUET-UG 2025 has triggered a wave of concern and disappointment among students after the National Testing Agency (NTA) released city intimation slips on May 7. Candidates were hoping to receive centres based on the preferences they had submitted earlier during the application process. Instead, many have been allotted exam cities that were their last preference or not listed in their choices at all, prompting frustration across social media platforms.

Distant Centres Raise Travel Concerns

Students from various states have taken to X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook to share their grievances. A student from Meerut stated that her centre was in Muzaffarnagar, 70–80 km away, while another from Jammu reported being sent to Mohali — nearly 400 km from her home — despite never selecting it as an option. Others claimed to have received centres nearly 700 km away. These stories reflect a deep concern over the fairness and transparency of the centre allocation process.

The complaints range from logistical hurdles to financial strain, as traveling long distances—especially over multiple exam days—adds a significant burden to students and their families. “What is the point of choosing city preferences if they are not going to be considered?” questioned one student, echoing the sentiments of hundreds.

A Pattern in NTA Exams?

This is not the first time such issues have surfaced. Students raised similar concerns during CUET-PG and JEE Mains, both conducted by the NTA. With CUET-UG quickly growing into a centralised entrance route for undergraduate admissions in India, students expect clarity and consistency. However, recurring issues with centre allocations are raising doubts about the efficiency of the process.

When Will Admit Cards Be Released?

While city intimation slips were released on May 7, admit cards for CUET-UG 2025 are yet to be made available. They will be issued four days prior to each exam date. The exams are scheduled to be conducted between May 13 and June 3, 2025, and will be held in a hybrid mode — pen-and-paper for some subjects and computer-based for others.

Until then, students are advised to keep checking the official NTA website (cuet.nta.nic.in) for any updates and to prepare for travel if required.

What Students Are Demanding

Beyond logistical clarity, students are asking for fairness and empathy. A comment from an Instagram reel summed up the frustration: “Applied for CUET with hope, got a center in another state instead. Different dates, no clarity. Is this fair?” The NTA has not yet released an official response addressing the concerns.

With CUET-UG now a gateway to admissions in top central, state, and private universities, stakeholders urge the NTA to improve the centre allocation mechanism and ensure that students’ preferences are taken seriously.
