Delhi University Earns Prestigious NAAC A++ Grade in Second Cycle, Sets New Benchmark for Excellence

Delhi University Achieves NAAC A++ Accreditation, Valid Till 2029

The University of Delhi (DU) has scaled a new peak in its academic journey, securing the highest NAAC accreditation grade — A++ — in its second cycle of assessment. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) announced the results on August 8, awarding DU a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.55. This top-tier accreditation will remain valid for five years, up to 2029.

In the previous cycle conducted in 2018, DU had earned an A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.28. The jump in score reflects the university’s consistent drive towards academic quality, research innovation, and institutional growth.

Calling this a “landmark moment” in DU’s history, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said the recognition was a collective achievement of the entire DU fraternity.

“This achievement is the result of the dedication and collective effort of our faculty, students, non-teaching staff, alumni, and stakeholders. It motivates us to set higher benchmarks and expand the horizons of excellence in teaching, research, and service to society,” Singh stated.

What the NAAC A++ Means for DU

An A++ grade is the highest honour NAAC awards to higher education institutions in India. It signifies that DU meets the most rigorous standards of academic delivery, infrastructure, research output, governance, and community engagement.

The improved CGPA from 3.28 in 2018 to 3.55 in 2025 reflects DU’s advancements in:

  • Innovative teaching methods blending technology with pedagogy.
  • Cutting-edge research initiatives across diverse disciplines.
  • Strengthened governance frameworks for academic and administrative efficiency.
  • Greater industry collaborations for experiential learning and placements.

The Vice-Chancellor also emphasised that DU remains committed to pushing the boundaries of excellence, not just in academic terms but also in societal impact.

Faculty and Student Pride

The announcement sparked celebrations across DU’s campuses. Teachers and students expressed pride on social media, hailing the recognition as proof of DU’s relevance and resilience in an increasingly competitive educational environment. Alumni associations also joined in, praising the university for keeping up with global academic trends while retaining its cultural and intellectual heritage.

The official DU social media handles posted:

“Proud Moment for DU! The University of Delhi has been awarded the NAAC A++ Grade with a CGPA of 3.55 in Cycle 2 Accreditation, announced today, the highest possible grade! This achievement reflects the collective dedication of our faculty, students, staff, alumni & stakeholders.”

Veer Savarkar College Admissions Face Delays

While DU celebrates its NAAC milestone, one of its much-anticipated expansions has hit a temporary snag. Earlier this year, DU announced the opening of Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh — its first new college in nearly 30 years. The announcement, made during DU’s 92nd annual court meeting in March, generated excitement among students in West Delhi.

Admissions were expected to begin this summer for the 2025-26 academic session. However, DU officials have now confirmed that the process is stuck due to pending approvals from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

Rajni Abbi, Director of DU South Campus, told The Indian Express:

“We plan to start the admissions process as soon as we clear all these procedures. If we get all the approvals, we are planning to admit students and start the session — even 15 days late if needed.”

This delay, though disappointing for many aspirants, is seen as a procedural hurdle rather than a long-term setback. Once operational, Veer Savarkar College is expected to offer a mix of arts, science, and commerce programmes to cater to the growing student population in the region.

The Road Ahead

With the NAAC A++ accreditation secured, Delhi University is poised to strengthen its position as one of India’s most prestigious centres of higher learning. The recognition not only enhances its reputation but also boosts its prospects for international collaborations, research funding, and top faculty recruitment.

For students, the NAAC grade assures that their degrees carry added value in both academic and professional spheres. For faculty and researchers, it reinforces the importance of continued innovation and scholarly contribution.

As DU looks ahead to the next five years, the focus will remain on expanding academic offerings, upgrading infrastructure, integrating advanced technologies into learning, and deepening its engagement with society at large.

In the Vice-Chancellor’s words, this is not just a milestone — it’s a launchpad for DU’s next chapter of excellence.
