DU Admissions 2025: BCom (Hons) Most Preferred Program, SRCC Tops College Choices

Delhi University, DU Admissions 2025: BCom (Hons) Emerges as the Top Choice Among CUET UG Aspirants

The University of Delhi (DU) has released the first round of preference data for undergraduate admissions 2025, revealing clear trends in student choices. Conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) and based on CUET UG 2025 results, the process saw an overwhelming number of applicants opting for commerce and humanities programs, with BCom (Hons) standing out as the most sought-after course.

As of the close of Phase II, where students locked in their program and college preferences, the BCom (Hons) program recorded a staggering 19,90,966 selections across colleges, making it the most popular undergraduate program yet again.

SRCC: The Undisputed Favorite Among Colleges

When it comes to college preferences, Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) continues to dominate. With 38,795 first-preference applications, SRCC emerged as the most desired institution among applicants.

Following SRCC were:

  • Hindu College with 31,901 first-choice applications
  • Hansraj College with 15,902
  • St. Stephen’s College with 12,413
  • Miranda House with 11,403

This data strongly reflects student trust in SRCC’s reputation for academic excellence, especially in commerce disciplines.

Gender Trends: Higher Participation From Female Applicants

Out of the 3,05,357 students who registered on the CSAS portal for DU UG admissions 2025, 2,39,890 candidates completed the preference selection process. Interestingly, female candidates accounted for a majority, submitting 1,27,284 entries (53.06%), compared to 1,12,603 male applications (46.93%).

This gender reversal in application numbers suggests a continuing trend of increased educational ambition and access among young women. It’s a reflection of growing parental support, better awareness, and perhaps a broader shift in how women perceive higher education not just as an academic pursuit but as a stepping stone to financial independence and leadership roles.

Top 5 Most Preferred Undergraduate Programs – DU Admissions 2025

According to the released figures, the following undergraduate programs attracted the highest number of first-preference selections:

  1. BCom (Hons) – 48,336
  2. BA (Hons) Political Science – 15,295
  3. BSc (Hons) Zoology – 12,722
  4. BTech (Mathematics and Humanities) – 10,584
  5. BCom (General) – 8,939

These choices reflect a blend of traditional preferences like commerce and political science, along with new-age options like the interdisciplinary BTech (Mathematics and Humanities).

Most Popular Course Combinations in BA Programs

Among Bachelor of Arts (BA) aspirants, combination courses also saw interesting patterns. The most selected course pairings were:

  • History + Political Science – 7,60,233
  • Economics + Political Science – 3,88,407
  • English + Economics – 3,49,367

These combinations highlight the growing interest in public policy, governance, and interdisciplinary humanities education, with students choosing diversity other than the set courses.

Stream-Wise Preference: Humanities Take the Lead

DU’s stream-wise data for 2025 paints a clear picture of evolving academic interest:

  • Humanities: 58.89% of total preferences
  • Commerce: 20.89%
  • Science: 20.22%

Despite India’s growing STEM focus, humanities continue to be the most popular stream, pointing to a renewed student interest in social sciences, literature, and civil services-related pathways.

What This Means for DU Aspirants

The data from the first round of preferences underlines some key takeaways:

  • BCom (Hons) remains the cornerstone of undergraduate aspirations at DU
  • SRCC, Hindu College, and Hansraj College are the dream destinations for thousands
  • Humanities-led education is gaining traction over traditional science and commerce streams
  • Female participation is rising, indicating a healthy gender balance in DU’s academic ecosystem

With the seat allocation process entering its next phase, candidates and parents can take cues from these insights to strategize better for future admissions. Final seat allotments and cutoffs will soon reflect how these preferences shape real-time selections.
