DU to Conduct Special Exams for Students Affected by Operation Sindoor
DU in a thoughtful move to support students impacted by unforeseen disruptions, has announced that it will conduct special examinations for those who missed their regular semester exams in May 2025 due to issues linked to Operation Sindoor. This provision, as per university officials, is meant solely for students who were genuinely unable to attend their scheduled exams because of circumstances surrounding the operation.
Operation Sindoor, a significant event that disrupted mobility and logistics for many, affected dozens of DU students. The university’s latest decision offers these students a second chance to complete their academic assessments without being penalized for events beyond their control.
The special provision applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate students from the academic session 2024–2025. According to a statement released by Professor Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, Controller of Examinations, students who missed their exams on May 13, 14, or 15, 2025, due to Operation Sindoor-related disruptions will be eligible to apply for a re-examination.
The announcement was made public on July 1, 2025, and the university has clearly outlined the process for applying. All eligible students must submit their details through a Google Form provided by the examination branch. The last date to submit the form is July 10, 2025 (Thursday), by 11:59 PM.
To ensure transparency and prevent misuse of this opportunity, students will be required to submit official documentation proving their inability to travel to Delhi during the exam period. The university emphasized that only verified applicants will be permitted to appear for the rescheduled exams. The revised exam dates will be communicated later by the university’s examination branch.
“This initiative is about maintaining academic integrity while also showing empathy towards our students,” said Professor Tuteja. “The documentation requirement ensures fairness, while the rescheduled exams make sure students don’t suffer academically due to unpredictable external circumstances.”
The university’s proactive approach has been welcomed by the student community, especially those who found themselves in a difficult situation during the May 2025 examination period. For many, this announcement brings a sense of relief and restores their confidence in the institution’s commitment to fairness.
Students like Riya Sharma, a postgraduate student from Himachal Pradesh, expressed gratitude for the decision. “I was stranded due to travel disruptions and had no way of reaching Delhi for my exams. The university’s announcement is not just a second chance—it’s a lifeline,” she said.
The special examination initiative demonstrates DU’s willingness to adapt its academic calendar and policies in response to real-life challenges. It also reflects the growing importance of institutional flexibility in today’s uncertain environment which could cost student’s their entire future.
Many educational institutions across the country have been urged to adopt similar student-friendly measures. As India continues to navigate complex logistical and social situations, such decisions set a benchmark for balancing academic rigor with compassion.
Students who believe they qualify for the special exam are advised to act quickly and ensure their documentation is complete. The university has clarified that no applications will be accepted after the July 10 deadline.
DU’s step toward accommodating students affected by Operation Sindoor is a positive example of how universities can support students in times of crisis, without compromising on academic standards. With this move, the University of Delhi not only acknowledges the hardships faced by many but also reinforces its role as a student-centric institution thus, helping the students in the time of national emergency.
