Education Policy: CM Seeks New Plan to Strengthen School to Intermediate Path

Education policy is at the centre of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s latest directives aimed at improving the academic outcomes of students across Telangana. In a review meeting held on Wednesday, the Chief Minister instructed officials to conduct a detailed study on the structure and functioning of the education system from Class IX to Class XII. The goal is to ensure that students who pass Class X are fully supported to succeed in intermediate and beyond.

Improving intermediate pass rates

The Chief Minister expressed concern over the noticeable gap between the number of students clearing Class X and those who manage to successfully pass intermediate. He observed that while large numbers of students are completing their Class X exams, a significant portion are unable to clear their intermediate examinations. To address this, he asked officials to identify the challenges faced by students at this critical stage and to propose effective initiatives that can help improve pass percentages.

Mr Reddy emphasised that the intermediate stage is vital in shaping a student’s future, and called for better guidance and support systems to help students during these crucial years of their academic journey.

Comprehensive report on school structure

As part of the education policy reform, the Chief Minister has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive report on whether schools should continue up to Class XII or if a separate intermediate structure would be more effective. He also urged that suggestions be taken from the Education Commission, NGOs working in the education sector, and civil society groups to ensure that any new policy decisions are well informed and inclusive.

Review of Young India Residential Schools

The review meeting also focused on the progress of the Young India Residential Schools, a flagship initiative aimed at providing quality education. The Chief Minister reviewed the designs of these schools and suggested that a large national flag be installed at each campus to inspire students.

These residential schools will be built for boys and girls in every Assembly constituency. With land acquisition already completed for the first school in each constituency, the Chief Minister directed that officials now focus on identifying and acquiring land for the second school. He also instructed that weekly progress reports on construction should be submitted to him to ensure that the projects stay on track.

Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University plans

The Chief Minister also reviewed the construction plans for the Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Mahila Vishwa Vidyalayam, the proposed women’s university. He suggested several changes to the construction model to improve its design and functionality. Mr Reddy further ordered that the tender process for the university’s construction be completed at the earliest so that work can begin without delay.

Senior officials present at the review

The review meeting was held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and saw the participation of key officials including Chief Minister’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, State Government Advisor K Kesava Rao, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajith Reddy, Education Secretary Yogita Rana, Higher Education Board Chairman Balakishta Reddy, Technical Education Commissioner Sridevasena, Education Special Secretary Haritha, and JNTU Registrar Venkateswara Rao.

The Chief Minister’s push for reforms in education policy highlights the government’s commitment to improving the quality of schooling and ensuring that students are equipped to succeed both academically and professionally. With a focus on infrastructure development and systemic reforms, Telangana’s education sector is set for a new phase of growth and improvement.
