IIMs Offering UG Courses: Eligibility, Admissions, Seats, and Fees Explained
In a significant shift from their traditionally postgraduate-focused courses, several Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have stepped into undergraduate education. As of 2025, five IIMs have launched dedicated UG programmes, while seven others are offering the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) — a five-year course that blends undergraduate and postgraduate studies in management.
This expansion reflects the changing landscape of higher education in India, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages multidisciplinary and early exposure to professional education.
Standalone Undergraduate Programmes at IIMs
Recently, IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Sambalpur, and IIM Sirmaur have rolled out their own standalone undergraduate degrees, catering to students right after Class 12.
IIM Bangalore:
IIM Bangalore has launched two four-year honours degrees — BSc (Hons) in Economics and BSc (Hons) in Data Science. These are part of the newly created School of Multidisciplinary Studies and will be delivered at IIMB’s upcoming second campus in Jigani.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Minimum 60% marks in Mathematics in Class 12
- At least 60% overall in Class 10
- Age limit: 20 years (General category), 22 years (Reserved categories) as on August 1, 2025
Admission Process:
- Students will be selected via a national-level entrance exam, followed by a personal interview.
IIM Kozhikode:
In April 2025, IIM Kozhikode announced a four-year Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme. The course will be hosted at the institute’s Kochi campus, with the first batch starting by late August or early September 2025.
Admissions began in June 2025, and the programme is aimed at offering a strong foundation in management studies along with opportunities for multidisciplinary learning.
IIM Sambalpur:
Joining the movement, IIM Sambalpur launched two undergraduate degrees in May 2025:
- Bachelor of Science in Management and Public Policy
- Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
Both programmes reflect the institute’s focus on combining management education with emerging technologies and public policy awareness.
Admissions to these courses will be conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), making it more accessible to students from various parts of India.
Seven IIMs Offering Integrated Programme in Management (IPM)
The IPM was first introduced in 2011 by IIM Indore. It’s a five-year dual-degree programme that offers students a BBA/BMS equivalent undergraduate degree and an MBA upon completion. Students can also choose to exit after three years with just the UG degree.
As of 2025, the following seven IIMs offer IPM:
- IIM Indore
- IIM Rohtak
- IIM Ranchi
- IIM Bodh Gaya
- IIM Jammu
- IIM Shillong (first batch starts in 2025)
- IIM Amritsar (first batch starts in 2025)
Seat Intake: Ranges from 60 to 180 students depending on the institute.
Selection Process: Most of these institutes conduct their own entrance exams, such as IPMAT, along with interviews and aptitude assessments.
Autonomy Under the IIM Act, 2017
Under the IIM Act of 2017, each IIM has the autonomy to design new courses, set up departments, and launch academic programmes independently. This legislative backing has empowered IIMs to innovate in education and expand their offerings beyond the traditional MBA.
The rise of undergraduate and integrated courses at IIMs is a big win for students who aspire to join India’s premier management institutions right after school.
