IIT Madras Opens Admissions for BTech in AI and Data Analytics 2025

IIT Madras will accept the second cohort of students for its BTech programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for the 2025-26 academic year. The cutting-edge programme, introduced under the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, seeks to build tomorrow’s global leaders in the rapidly emerging field of Artificial Intelligence by bringing together academic depth and intense industry interaction.

Ranked #1 in NIRF India Rankings, IIT Madras made an announcement that students who pass the JEE Advanced 2025 can join this programme during the next JoSAA counselling. The programme has an intake capacity of 50 students and is listed under course code 412L.

Aimed at giving a solid grounding in the basics of AI and Data Analytics, BTech course finds a balance between theoretical concepts and practical usage. Students will gain exposure to principal areas like machine learning, deep learning, foundation models, reinforcement learning, and generative AI. The curriculum is aligned to international industry and research requirements and provides a wide-ranging learning experience across various applications of AI.

The curriculum design involves intense focus on mathematical fundamentals like linear algebra and calculus, progressing to core modules in data science, machine learning, and responsible AI design. As per IIT Madras, the students will gain interdisciplinary learning and can choose to study two broad core baskets: traditional applications and system-oriented applications in AI.

IIT Madras also emphasized that the curriculum is designed to develop innovation, impact, and responsibility in applying AI technology. With electives in cutting-edge fields like Speech and Language Technology, Computer Vision, Control and Detection, and Time-Series Analysis, students can tailor their academic journeys according to their career aspirations and interests.

IIT Madras: Why is the BTech in AI and Data Analytics a special opportunity for budding technologists?

The programme provides extensive industry interaction in the form of structured internships and undergraduate research opportunities, enabling students to develop real-world experience while working on their degree. The university mentioned that graduates would be well placed for careers both in fundamental research at international tech companies and in applied sectors such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and more.

The other significant feature is the presence of Responsible AI and Fairness in Technology as central themes. Students will be taught courses that cover ethical implications and societal effects of AI systems. The emphasis on responsible design makes sure that students are not merely skilled engineers but also aware technologists who can come up with fair and transparent AI solutions.

The BTech programme is an integral component of IIT Madras’ strategic plan to be among the world’s leading institutions for AI and data science education. The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, which offers this program, also seeks to be a knowledge partner to governments and policy-makers on issues relating to AI.

Director Prof. V. Kamakoti mentioned, “AI and Data Analytics is a newer field. This BTech programme has a judiciously matured curriculum which is beautifully tailored to industry needs as well as the needs of the research community. Lots of interesting problems are ahead of us, and I am certain that students shall highly gain by pursuing this programme and mold their lucrative future.”

IIT Madras continues to assert its leadership role in AI education in India with cutting-edge programs that address issues of the time while equipping students to drive innovation on the global stage.
