IIT Mandi Records Highest UG Admissions in 2025, Women Enrollment Rises

IIT Mandi Welcomes Record Undergraduate Batch for 2025-26; Female Enrollment Sees a Boost

The Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Mandi has begun the new academic year on a high note, welcoming its largest-ever undergraduate batch since its inception. For the academic year 2025–26, 592 students have enrolled in various undergraduate programmes—an increase from 514 students in 2024.

This year’s intake not only marks a significant leap in overall admissions but also reflects a positive shift towards gender diversity. Among the new joiners, 121 are female students, up from 96 last year, while 394 are male students. This rise in women’s participation is seen as a direct result of IIT Mandi’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable space for women in STEM education.

A Diverse Class, A Dynamic Start

The new batch comprises students from a wide range of academic interests, including 13 undergraduate programmes. These include core branches like Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science and AI, Microelectronics and VLSI, and the newly introduced Integrated MBA (IMBA) programme. According to Professor Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi, the diversity in academic choices signals a promising start for the incoming cohort.

The institute officially kick-started its academic year with an elaborate orientation programme, designed to familiarise students and their parents with campus life, academic structures, and student support systems. The session included comprehensive presentations by Dr. Venkatesh H. Chembrolu (Dean Academics), Dr. Tushar Jain (Dean Students), and Dr. Ramna Thakur (Chief Warden). They addressed key topics ranging from academic policies and hostel life to student welfare schemes and co-curricular opportunities available on campus.

Interactive Orientation with a Purpose

The orientation session also featured an interactive Q&A segment, where students and parents had the opportunity to speak directly with faculty members and administrators. This open forum encouraged participants to ask questions, clarify doubts, and gain valuable insights into life at IIT Mandi.

But the welcome doesn’t stop there. IIT Mandi is hosting a 10-day induction programme from August 1 to August 10, filled with enriching and engaging activities aimed at easing students into their new academic journey. The schedule includes interactions with inspirational leaders, technology experts, and motivational speakers, setting the tone for a well-rounded and purpose-driven learning experience.

Focus on Well-being, Inclusivity, and Sustainability

The induction goes beyond academics. The programme includes daily yoga sessions, physical activities, and wellness workshops focusing on mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being. Sessions on gender sensitisation are also part of the schedule, reinforcing IIT Mandi’s commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive campus culture.

In addition to intellectual and emotional development, the programme celebrates the spirit of community and sustainability. Students will participate in cultural events, Super Sports Sunday, and environmental activities like a tree plantation drive and a nature walk within the scenic IIT Mandi campus. These activities are designed to create bonds, encourage teamwork, and cultivate environmental consciousness among students from day one.

A Holistic Academic Beginning

With this comprehensive orientation and induction process, IIT Mandi is ensuring that its students don’t just step into college—they step into a community. One that’s committed to excellence, diversity, well-being, and innovation.

As the 2025–26 academic year unfolds, IIT Mandi is not only celebrating a record-breaking intake but also laying a strong foundation for its students through meaningful engagement, holistic support, and inclusive practices. This signals a promising and progressive future for the institute and its newest cohort of change-makers.
