If you’ve successfully cleared the JEE (Advanced), you’re in for some exciting news! The upcoming Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) Counselling will offer you the chance to enroll in two brand-new programs, each with a total of 40 spots available.
Today, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, announced the launch of two innovative undergraduate engineering courses for the 2025-26 academic year. These programs will be offered through the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, a department known for its pioneering interdisciplinary research since IIT Madras opened its doors in 1959.

(i) BTech in Computational Engineering and Mechanics (CEM) : Course code 412U
This four-year program is designed for those looking to dive into the world of digital engineering, where the realms of physical systems and computational technologies meet, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence. The curriculum will cover a range of computational methods, including machine learning, data science, and high-performance computing, while also providing a solid foundation in solid and fluid mechanics, core electrical engineering (think circuits, signals, and embedded systems), material science, and dynamics.
Graduates from this program will be well-equipped for impactful careers across various industries, from aerospace and robotics to automotive and manufacturing. Plus, you’ll be ready to tackle emerging fields like digital twin design, smart infrastructure, sustainable energy, and sustainable computing.
The BTech in Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering (iBME), with course code 412V, is a four-year program designed to equip students with the skills to create medical devices by blending essential Biomedical Engineering principles with a solid grounding in electrical and instrumentation engineering. Graduates from this program will be prepared to design solutions that are not only clinically regulated but also ethically sound, tackling pressing global healthcare issues. Additionally, students have the chance to elevate their education by transitioning to a five-year Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.Tech.) through Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) programs. Three of these programs—Computational Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Complex Systems and Dynamics—are managed by the faculty from the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering.
