Maharashtra FYJC: 2.5L Await Seat Confirmation

Over 2.5 lakh students in Maharashtra haven’t confirmed FYJC Round 1 seats. Monday is the last date. Mumbai, Pune lead confirmations. Check full update.

With the clock ticking down on the first-round deadline for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions in Maharashtra, more than 2.5 lakh students are yet to confirm their allotted seats — raising concerns among education officials and school authorities.

According to data released by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, out of 10,66,005 students who applied for junior college admissions across the state, 6,32,194 students were allotted seats in the first Centralized Admission Process (CAP) round. However, only 3,81,331 students have officially confirmed their admissions so far.

This leaves 2,50,863 students — nearly 40% of those allotted seats — yet to confirm their admissions, even as the Monday deadline (July 8, 2025) looms. Authorities are urging students and parents to complete the process promptly to avoid losing their allotted seats.

Breakdown by Region: Mumbai, Pune Lead Confirmations

Among the regions, Mumbai saw the highest number of confirmed admissions, with 80,858 students locking in their seats. This figure includes students admitted under both quota and CAP allocations. Pune closely followed with 79,417 confirmations, showing strong response rates in the urban centers.

These numbers reflect a healthy pace of confirmations in major cities but also highlight significant gaps in other regions, where confirmations are trailing behind.

Quota Admissions Add to Total Confirmations

In addition to CAP admissions, 77,209 students have secured seats under the various quota systems — including management, minority, and in-house quotas. These admissions are processed separately from the CAP rounds but are counted toward the total confirmations.

How Junior Colleges Are Filling Up

Out of the nearly 14,000 junior colleges participating in FYJC admissions:

  • 29 colleges have achieved 100% seat allotment in the first round, indicating strong demand or limited capacity.
  • 2,489 colleges have filled between 80% and 99% of their available seats.
  • 1,888 colleges saw between 60% and 79% seat allotment.
  • A larger group of 3,505 colleges reported 40% to 59% allotment.
  • Alarmingly, 10,278 colleges recorded less than 40% seat allotment, with some even below 10%.

These figures highlight a mixed response across the state, with high-performing urban colleges nearing full capacity while many rural and semi-urban institutions still have large numbers of vacancies.

What Happens If Students Don’t Confirm Their Seats?

Students who fail to confirm their allotted seat by the deadline will forfeit that seat and must wait for the second round of seat allotments, which will come with no guarantee of the same course or college.

Education department officials are urging students and parents to act quickly. “We appeal to all students to confirm their seats by the given deadline to secure their academic future,” said a senior official from the Directorate.

What’s Next in the Admission Process?

Once the first round closes, the department will:

  • Analyze vacancy data across all colleges.
  • Publish a list of remaining vacant seats.
  • Open up the second round of CAP admissions, where fresh preferences may be allowed based on seat availability.

The state’s FYJC admission system plays a crucial role in streamlining college enrollments for Class 11 students after SSC (Class 10) results, and any delays or confusion at this stage can create unnecessary stress for students and parents alike.

With the first deadline just hours away, thousands of students are in a race against time to complete their admissions and ensure their place in the academic year ahead. Authorities are hopeful that the remaining confirmations will come through before the final cut-off, but the high number of pending admissions remains a concern.
