NEET-UG 2024 paper leak has triggered a serious overhaul in the medical admission process in India. In response to confirmed cases of malpractice during the entrance exam, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has cancelled the admissions of 14 MBBS students and suspended 26 others who were found to have used unfair means to gain entry into medical colleges.
This disciplinary action follows findings from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other investigative agencies currently looking into the irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The NMC’s decision highlights a strong push for transparency and fairness in one of the country’s most competitive examinations.
What Sparked the Action?
The students penalized were found to have committed serious exam violations, including cheating and using unauthorized assistance during the test. Based on the CBI’s investigation, the NMC issued directives to the concerned medical colleges to enforce immediate suspension and cancellation orders.
An official source stated, “Given the seriousness of these violations and their potential to undermine the credibility of the medical education system, the NMC has taken strict action to uphold standards.”
NTA’s Earlier Measures
Prior to the NMC’s crackdown, the National Testing Agency (NTA)—responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exam—had already taken action against 42 candidates. These students were banned from appearing for NEET-UG in 2024, 2025, and 2026 after being caught using unfair practices. Additionally, nine more students were barred from appearing in the 2025 and 2026 exams.
These penalties were implemented after post-exam scrutiny revealed clear evidence of misconduct.

215 Candidates Still Under Review
While 40 students have already been penalized, the future of 215 other candidates remains uncertain. Their admissions have been put on hold, pending further investigation. Authorities are currently reviewing their cases and more suspensions or cancellations may follow based on the outcomes.
NMC Reinforces Zero-Tolerance Policy
With the NEET-UG 2025 exam scheduled for May 4, the timing of the NMC’s action is significant. It sends a strong message that the Commission is serious about maintaining academic integrity. Reaffirming its zero-tolerance approach, the NMC stated that it will continue to take all necessary steps to preserve the credibility of India’s medical education system.
The Commission has emphasized that such disciplinary measures are essential to ensure that only deserving candidates are admitted into medical institutions.
Why This Matters
The NEET-UG exam is a critical gateway for students aspiring to enter the medical field. With lakhs of students competing for limited seats, even a single case of cheating can call into question the fairness of the entire system. The NMC’s decision to act firmly against those involved in malpractice reflects a broader effort to restore public trust in the examination process.
As the investigation continues and more details come to light, the Commission is expected to further tighten security protocols for future exams and safeguard the interests of honest students.
The message is clear: integrity in medical admissions is non-negotiable, and any compromise will be dealt with firmly.
