NCERT to introduce Operation Sindoor in schoolbooks for Classes 3–12, highlighting India’s military strength, space progress, and national pride.
Operation Sindoor to Feature in NCERT Curriculum: Teaching Students About India’s Military Strength and National Progress
In a major step towards enriching school education with real-world national achievements, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is preparing a new learning module that will introduce students to Operation Sindoor, a recent showcase of India’s military preparedness and strategic competence. This module is aimed at helping children across age groups understand India’s growing defence strength, technological advancement, and global standing.
According to officials from the Ministry of Education, the specially designed module will soon be released and integrated into classroom instruction for students from Classes 3 to 12. The initiative is in line with the broader goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which seeks to make learning more experiential, contemporary, and deeply rooted in Indian values and achievements.

Two-Part Module to Reach Diverse Age Groups
The new module, which is expected to span around 8 to 10 pages, will be presented in two segments to ensure age-appropriate engagement. The first segment, designed for Classes III to VIII, will present the content in a simplified, engaging format, focusing on the basics of Operation Sindoor, India’s national pride, and stories of courage. Meanwhile, the second segment, for Classes IX to XII, will offer a more in-depth exploration, diving into the geopolitical relevance of the operation, defence strategies, and India’s evolving security doctrines.
Officials noted that the inclusion of this module reflects a conscious effort to help students develop a stronger connection with the nation’s achievements—not only in terms of defence but also in scientific and environmental progress.
What Is Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor has been hailed as a milestone in India’s defence preparedness. While the operation itself remains partially classified, it is recognised as a moment that highlighted India’s strategic resilience and its ability to respond decisively to threats. The NCERT module will frame this event within a broader narrative of national pride, highlighting India’s ability to defend its sovereignty and respond effectively to hostile challenges, including recent geopolitical setbacks faced by Pakistan.
By presenting Operation Sindoor in this light, the content aims to educate students on real-time national developments, providing them with both knowledge and inspiration.
Incorporating Broader National Themes
Beyond the military aspect, the module will branch into other significant areas of India’s growth story. One key feature will be Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which encourages individuals, especially youth, to adopt sustainable practices and make environmentally conscious choices in daily life. By placing this alongside defence narratives, the curriculum aims to balance pride in national strength with responsibility toward the planet.
Another important theme will be “The Horrors of Partition”, giving students historical insight into the trauma of India’s division in 1947. This section will be developed with sensitivity to ensure students grasp both the emotional and political dimensions of that time.
Celebrating India’s Space Journey
To further spark curiosity and inspire ambition among young minds, the module will also spotlight India’s growing space power. This will include a timeline of major achievements, from the Chandrayaan missions to the Aditya L1 solar observatory. A special feature will cover the recent mission of Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who made history as the first Indian to visit the International Space Station (ISS). His journey will be shared as a story of national achievement and as a beacon of possibility for Indian students interested in science, technology, and space exploration.
Designed for Impactful Learning
Sources in NCERT revealed that the module will be written in a style suited to each age group. For younger students, the language will be easy to understand, featuring illustrations, narratives, and fun facts. For older students, the content will be more analytical, inviting them to reflect critically on India’s security strategies, history, and scientific vision for the future.
This move is a part of NCERT’s ongoing curriculum overhaul under NEP 2020, which encourages the integration of contemporary national themes, patriotic values, and global outlooks into the classroom.
By embedding Operation Sindoor and other modern success stories into the school syllabus, the education system aims not only to inform but to inspire—fostering a generation of students who are both proud of their nation’s past and excited about its future.
