In a major push for educational reform, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday unveiled three new programmes—NEEEV, Science of Living, and Rashtraneeti—designed to prepare students with future-ready skills and a strong sense of citizenship.
Transformative Vision: Bridging the Gap Between Private and Government Schools
In her address, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized her determination to eliminate the gap that has long separated private and government institutions. She reassured teachers of government schools that their qualifications were no less than their private school counterparts.
“Your qualifications are no less than private school teachers. The only difference is in energy,” she said, urging teachers to innovate, nurture curiosity, and sustain their passion for teaching. Her remarks received loud applause from the assembled educators, many of whom welcomed the renewed sense of recognition.
Gupta also drew attention to the critical academic stages of Classes 9 and 11, cautioning schools against expelling students during these years. “Results won’t improve if children are expelled in Classes 9 and 11. Instead, they should be encouraged and supported,” she stressed.
Her statement resonated with many teachers who have long argued that academic pressure often forces students into dropouts, diminishing their chances of achieving success later in life. By focusing on retention and support, the government aims to create a more inclusive education system.
Transformative Programmes: NEEEV, Science of Living, and Rashtraneeti
The three new programmes have been designed with distinct objectives, reflecting Delhi’s effort to modernize its school system:
- NEEEV (New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision): Aims to cultivate entrepreneurship among students by encouraging them to become job creators rather than job seekers. The programme is expected to include practical workshops, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to real-world business models.
- Science of Living: Focuses on holistic personal development, with an emphasis on emotional intelligence, resilience, and ethical values. This programme seeks to strengthen the mental health and well-being of students in an era marked by academic pressure and digital distractions.
- Rashtraneeti: Seeks to instill a sense of responsible citizenship, civic awareness, and national pride. By learning about governance, ethics, and social responsibilities, students will be prepared to participate meaningfully in democracy.
Gupta underlined the government’s commitment to funding these initiatives, famously remarking, “One flyover less can be built, but schools must be improved.” The statement was widely seen as a reflection of her belief that investment in education yields greater long-term returns than infrastructure alone.
Education Minister Ashish Sood echoed her views, describing students as the future leaders of the nation. “Students who come to school in uniform are not just students for me, they are future prime ministers, scholars, scientists, doctors, and teachers,” he said. He further emphasized that the true strength of India lies in the character of its citizens, calling on teachers to ensure the success of these new initiatives.
A New Chapter in Delhi’s Education Journey
The launch of NEEEV, Science of Living, and Rashtraneeti signals a new phase in Delhi’s education landscape—one that prioritizes entrepreneurship, values, and civic responsibility over rote learning and outdated metrics of success.
By combining skill-building with holistic development, the government hopes to prepare students not just for jobs but for life itself. If implemented effectively, these initiatives could pave the way for a generation of self-reliant, empathetic, and socially responsible citizens.
With the presence of hundreds of teachers at the launch, the event symbolized a collective commitment to building a more inclusive and empowering education system. The true challenge, however, will lie in consistent execution across Delhi’s schools, ensuring that these ambitious programmes translate into meaningful change in classrooms.
Still, optimism remains high. Teachers, policymakers, and students alike now look forward to a future where Delhi’s education system stands as a model of transformative growth for the entire nation.
