The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has called on its large base of more than 14 lakh members and students to actively assist the Indian Armed Forces and the country in these times of crisis with Pakistan. This appeal is made in light of increased national tensions after Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory attack on terror targets in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
ICAI, with its widespread presence across nearly 17,000 pin codes and 13 branches in proximity to the India-Pakistan border, is mobilizing its members to offer both logistical and humanitarian aid. These efforts, according to ICAI’s statement, include facilitating civilian evacuations, setting up shelter camps, providing ambulances and medical supplies such as oxygen cylinders, and distributing essential medicines. The Institute has also proposed organizing blood donation drives and other life-saving services in affected regions.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India laid stress upon its members staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious or anti-national activities, thus, aiding the national security forces in maintaining order at this crucial time.

In what ways is The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India utilizing its large and extensive membership base to aid the country throughout the India-Pakistan conflict?
CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, ICAI President, spoke directly to the fraternity, extolling the Indian Armed Forces’ gallantry and reiterating ICAI’s pledge to the country. “ICAI honors the courage and perseverance of our troops. We have immense pride in their valour in avenging the ghastly killing of 26 innocent lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.”. Operation ‘SINDOOR’ is a strong message from a New Bharat, one that proclaims there shall be no compromise when it comes to defending India’s sovereignty,” he said.
Nanda further added that The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has always believed in the concept of “Nation First.” He reminded members of their duty not only as fiscal custodians but also as pillars of national strength during crisis times.
We are not only accountants—we are the financial soldiers of India. In every storm that has rocked our nation, ICAI has been the bastion of strength and integrity,” Nanda declared. He also exhorted the fraternity to step up to the occasion and show their commitment to patriotism and public service.
CA. Prasanna Kumar D, the vice-president of ICAI, echoed these words and confirmed the identity of ICAI members as “financial soldiers of our motherland.” He restated the willingness of the entire community to behave like a decisive force during national crises.
Emphasizing its long tradition of serving national causes, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India narrated its role in past crises. In the Indo-Pak War of 1971, members of ICAI offered their services free of charge to martyrs’ families. In the recent COVID-19 pandemic, ICAI established task forces to offer essential relief, such as distributing oxygen concentrators, hospital beds, medicine, ambulances, and meals to the community.
Moreover, ICAI waived charges, provided scholarships, and gave emotional and financial assistance to students who lost their parents during the pandemic. Some branches took it further, donating medical equipment and supplies to hospitals, thus strengthening the local healthcare infrastructure at a time when it was under great pressure.
As per the official statement, “As a reliable ally in nation-building, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India stands committed to supporting the Armed Forces, the Prime Minister, and the people of India.” The statement further said that ICAI is committed to motivating financial professionals to move beyond their vocational level and become exemplars of patriotism, compassion, and a profound sense of civic responsibility.
This appeal for unity by ICAI comes at the same time as wider national efforts to preserve internal unity in the face of increasingly external threats. Operation Sindoor, India’s rapid military reaction to the terror attack in Pahalgam, has provoked a series of retaliatory drone and missile strikes by Pakistan. Although the Indian Armed Forces have been able to intercept most attacks, the border areas have seen intense shelling, causing civilian casualties and mass evacuations.
In reaction, many schools in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Ladakh have suspended classes. Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia have been contemplating postponing exams, and Delhi and other northern region schools have shifted to online modes.
In the midst of this national crisis, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is opting to set an example. Its leadership feels that the members of the financial fraternity need to look beyond balance sheets and audits to contribute to the upkeep of the nation’s fabric.
CA Nanda ended his speech with a call to action: “Let us unite in this hour of need. Let the CA fraternity set an example, demonstrating that we are not just custodians of financial integrity but also of national honour and social responsibility.”
The ICAI effort has already begun mobilizing resources in its student chapters and regional councils, with multiple branches to begin on-ground relief efforts in coordination with local governments.
With a tradition of service and devotion to national interest, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has yet again established itself as an essential player in India’s social and strategic infrastructure.
