Government School in Jaipur Gets New Infrastructure Boost
A government primary school in Rampura-Kanwarpura near Jaipur is set for a major infrastructure upgrade after concerns over its condition were highlighted during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) campaign. The school, which has 18 students and two teachers, will receive ₹18 lakh for a new building, with construction expected to begin on September 1.
The development follows a CJP visit to the school on August 21, when the organisation’s team led by co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka attempted to inspect the facilities. The visit was followed by a confrontation, with CJP alleging that its members were attacked.
School Building Was Declared Unsafe
The original school building had been declared dilapidated in September 2025 following a technical assessment. The building, which dates back several decades, had developed serious problems, including a leaking roof.
After the building was taken out of use, arrangements were made locally so that students could continue attending classes within the village. The government said the decision was taken after villagers objected to shifting young children to a school several kilometres away.
Students Were Moved to Temporary Premises
The school subsequently operated from an alternative space provided with the cooperation of villagers. Images of students studying in a space where cattle were also kept brought renewed attention to the condition of the school.
The government has disputed the description of the premises as a “cowshed”, saying the students were temporarily accommodated in a village home with space for cattle. Following the controversy, the students were moved into another safer building provided by local residents.
CJP Campaign Brings School Infrastructure Into Focus
The Rampura-Kanwarpura school became part of CJP’s broader “School Thik Karo” campaign, which has focused on the condition of government schools in Rajasthan.
The campaign has drawn attention to infrastructure deficiencies across the state, while also leading to political tensions surrounding CJP’s attempts to inspect government schools.
CJP has described the approval of funds for the school as a major achievement of its campaign.
₹12 Lakh From Government, ₹6 Lakh From MLA Fund
The ₹18 lakh approved for the new school building comes from two sources. The state government has sanctioned ₹12 lakh through the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), while another ₹6 lakh has been approved from the MLA fund of local BJP MLA Kailash Verma.
The funding is expected to allow construction of a permanent school building and provide students with a safer learning environment.
Rajasthan Announces Wider School Infrastructure Plan
The development comes as the Rajasthan government faces wider scrutiny over the condition of its government schools. The state has announced a three-year ₹12,500-crore infrastructure roadmap covering new school buildings, classrooms, repairs and toilet facilities.
The broader plan includes ₹2,487 crore for new buildings, ₹8,378 crore for additional classrooms, ₹1,129 crore for repairs and ₹340 crore for new toilet complexes, according to reports.
Parents Hope for Better Facilities
For parents in Rampura-Kanwarpura, the new building represents more than an infrastructure project. Families have said they continue sending their children to the government school because private education is unaffordable for them.
The school is located on the outskirts of Jaipur, with private schools available within a few kilometres. However, the nearest government school offering education up to Class 10 is around four kilometres away.
The new building could therefore help retain students in the local government school while providing them with a safer and more stable place to study.
School Infrastructure Remains a Major Issue
The Rampura-Kanwarpura case has highlighted a wider issue facing government education in Rajasthan. Earlier, the state government acknowledged that 611 government schools were functioning without their own buildings, while thousands of other schools faced gaps in basic facilities.
The latest funding announcement and the state’s wider infrastructure plan are expected to be closely watched as authorities attempt to address these shortcomings.
