The state government has announced the appointment of 7,279 special educators in government-run primary and upper primary schools, marking a historic step towards addressing the learning needs of children with disabilities across the state.

Thousands of Vacancies Across Primary and Upper Primary Schools

Out of the total posts, 5,534 positions are reserved for classes 1 to 5, while 1,745 teachers will be appointed for classes 6 to 8. Age Relaxation to Encourage Wider Participation

In a move aimed at expanding eligibility, the Bihar government is offering a 10-year age relaxation to eligible candidates applying in this first phase of recruitment. Recruitment Through BPSC

The entire special educator recruitment process will be conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). The Director of Primary Education, Sahila, has already sent an official communication to the Secretary of the BPSC, requesting the commission to begin the process. The letter highlights that this is the first-ever appointment drive specifically for special educators under Bihar’s primary education system, making it a landmark initiative.

Mandatory Qualification and Certification

Candidates who wish to apply must have passed the Bihar Special School Teacher Eligibility Test (BSSTET) 2023, which serves as the qualifying examination. Additionally, a valid CRR number issued by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) must be submitted along with other relevant educational certificates. The CRR (Central Rehabilitation Register) number is proof that the candidate is a registered professional under the RCI, ensuring credibility and qualification in special education.

Applications Open for Multiple Disability Categories

One of the progressive features of this recruitment is that candidates will be allowed to apply for positions under more than one of the nine recognized disability categories. This includes areas like visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, multiple disabilities, and others. This flexibility ensures that schools can cater to a wider range of student needs through specially trained staff.
