Dummy candidate fraud has once again come to light, this time involving a final-year MBBS student from AIIMS Jodhpur. Just months before graduating, Sachin Gora was arrested by Rajasthan Police on Friday for allegedly using a proxy to appear for the NEET-UG 2020 exam. The shocking revelation was made following a formal complaint filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA), New Delhi.
Arrest of AIIMS Student in High-Profile Case
According to officials, Sachin had scored an impressive 667 marks in NEET-UG 2020, securing admission to AIIMS Jodhpur. However, investigations have now revealed that he never took the exam himself. Instead, another individual wrote the paper on his behalf, exposing a deep-rooted case of impersonation and fraud.
Jaipur Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar confirmed that Sachin and two others — Dr Ajit Gora and Dr Subhash Saini — are involved in the scam. Dr Ajit, whose photo was allegedly used on Sachin’s NEET admit card, completed his MBBS from Bharatpur Medical College and is currently pursuing his one-year internship. He is accused of appearing for the exam using Sachin’s credentials.
A Deal Worth ₹60 Lakh
The entire arrangement was reportedly made possible through Dr Subhash Saini, a health officer in Ghatwa, Nagaur. Police say that Subhash acted as the middleman and brokered a deal worth ₹60 lakh to facilitate the impersonation.
The scam involved manipulating admit cards and identity proofs, allowing Ajit to enter the exam centre as Sachin. Once the deal was successful and Sachin gained admission into AIIMS, the group believed the matter would remain buried — until the NTA flagged inconsistencies during a recent review.
Systemic Loopholes and National Concerns
This incident has once again brought to the surface the growing concerns over the credibility of competitive entrance exams in India. With over 20 lakh aspirants appearing for NEET each year, the discovery of dummy candidates threatens the foundation of a system built on merit and fairness.
Officials from the NTA have assured the public that steps will be taken to tighten verification processes. The agency is now exploring enhanced biometric checks and other security measures to avoid such impersonation cases in future exams.
